50 days challenge ❄️ Daily update <#C07TTG7NVPX|> | Streak: 8 days! Still sick, but I was able to get more accomplished today... Productive stuff I did for my goals • Edited a video I helped film and put together of a cultural celebration at my school and finalized it for posting on social media! • Planned application to a fun summer program. • Did a batch of calculus problems --- my math notes Google Doc hit 100 pages :0 • Did two practice exams in preparation for my chemistry midterm! That's 40 full-length problems across 100 minutes :3 (attached is a photo of some of my random scratch paper) • Went to my chemistry lab practical today, it went well! I got 100% on the post-lab assessment • Got caught up on some stuff in Hack Club • Uploaded news articles to a site and designed Instagram posts for a small news publication I help edit for! Nice stuff • I was checking university major requirements and found that on top of my existing reqs for engineering (which I know for sure I'm going to do) I just need to take 1 more class for a mathematics minor and 3 more classes for a mathematics major... should I do it to flex bruh (math is my least favorite subject but I find it funny and possibly a valuable degree)

Hey everyone! Something really cool happened yesterday! Want to hear about it? I hope so, because I'm going to say it either way! I went to a local hackathon called Island Hacks which is hosted every year. I went to this same hackathon in September 2024, and had such a good time I looked for more hackathons, which eventually led me to discover Hack Club! It was basically the point when I stopped doing beginner courses and really started to code regularly and actually make projects. I've grown so much since then, from growing my html and (basically nonexistent) css and js skills to coding 100 hours on one project for #Juice, and designing PCBs in KiCad to running my own club with @Slloom , and so much more. I can't say I owe it all to Island Hacks - more organizations and people have been part of my journey than I can count - but it was definitely part of the start of it all. Anyway, I can tell more of my story later. Right now, I want to talk about yesterday's Island Hacks. It started at 9am with breakfast and a three-to-a-team puzzle/riddle thing through google form. I joined up with two girls named Amelia and Aria who were sitting at my table. After the first team completed it, they announced the theme: Make something that solves a problem of someone in your life. Both Amelia and Aria had never really coded before, so we stayed for the beginner's workshop that immediately followed. By the time it finished, we had a solid idea of what our project would be: A website that generates icebreaker questions to help you get to know someone. At the end of the day, we presented our website, and waited while the judges deliberated. And then something entirely unexpected happened. We won the Judges Choice Award!!! I never would have expected us to win. The project was certainly much better than the project my team had made last year, but there were a ton of cool projects this year - which I suppose makes the win even sweeter :) With that, let me just say a huge thank you to the Island Hacks team. They worked so hard to put this on, and I would highly recommend attending next year if you live in the bay area (find them at island-hacks.org). And of course, a shoutout to my amazing team. Our project would have not been possible without them: Aria did all the art, Amelia helped with function design and created the questions (60+ of them!), and I did most of the programming. They were both so much fun to work with! Have you ever struggled to really connect with someone?

In my family, we often have the problem of not knowing what kinds of questions to ask each other. We want to actually learn more about one another, but are too often faced with distraction or a lack of ideas. We want something that will be fun and actually tell us more. 

That's why we created our website, Break the Ice.

The purpose of this website is to provide a fun and engaging way to get to know other people, through asking the right questions.

 Our website generates questions in three levels. Basic questions, which help you learn about what's on the surface of a person, Mid-level questions, which offer ways to dive deeper and begin to understand them, and Deep questions, which provide thought provoking prompts to help grasp their core beliefs and identity.

Anyone can search up a list of "Get to know you questions" but wouldn't you rather have a website dedicated to their curation, with a fun command-on-click user experience? I sure would. We hope this website inspires more connection between people, without the barrier of brain fog.

If you take one thing away from this, go to a hackathon! They can be so much fun and they allow you to connect with people with similar interests who you might not otherwise meet. Anyway, thanks for reading! There was also a speaker panel, so I might post the advice I learned from that. Keep an eye out!

My bioinformatics model is finally training correctly! Earlier it was silently crashing due having insufficient memory, so I had to run it on an NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU with 80 GB of HBM2e memory. It's honestly crazy how I first started training models on my local machine, then on a T4 in Google Colab, and now on a full High Performance Computing research cluster. For those curious, I integrated my code with Weights & Biases (wandb.ai), a very handy free tool for ML developers.

Today i first time realized how important using robots.txt file is. i had 10,000 api credits for my crypto project from coinmarketcap api but last night google bot started to crawl all of the coin details pages (each page counts as 3 credits ) and i have about 15,000 coins in my db. resulting to my api credits being expired in single night. now im learning how to write a robots.txt file

ASCEND SHIP INCOMING

in LA where we were surrounded by 50+ girls & non-binary in tech, helping organize one of the most incredible hackathons i've been to this year. of course, we still wanted to take the opportunity to build & ship a technical project so we spent majority of the day working on this AR simulation of a SpaceX Falcon 9 landing wherever you held up the SpaceX

with. and what’s the #1 problem facing youth in america 🦅 today? that’s right. there are no resources for underage gambling.

🇺🇸 so, from the hours of 1–5 am, @michelle and i went all in. armed with vanilla web dev, 2+ crash-outs, and sleep deprivation, we built a GAMBLING WEBSITE FOR MINORS. our project bridges the accessibility gap by offering an educational experience to prepare the next generation for the risks of losing it all. 🎲

Been a long time since I actually posted something on here... I have made an app for android (and linux) that makes using AirPods on those operating systems way easier and better. Do you know how much Apple likes to restrict most of the features to their devices. Well, I removed the restriction! I reverse-engineered how Apple devices communicate with AirPods and wrote an app for linux and android. AirPods use the L2CAP Bluetooth protocol to communicate with apple devices. The linux version of this app has multiple scripts. One of them runs as a daemon to handle the connection, and others to handle UI, userspace, like pausing music, lowering volume, etc.. I did this so that I can have multiple applications which can talk to the AirPods without interrupting the other one. It is written purely in Python. Currently, I have made a tray application using PyQT5/6. It manages ear detection, conversational awareness, and gives me control over ANC. And, it shows the battery level too! As for the Android app, well I have attached a few images! Yes, I have tried to clone iOS's settings screen for AirPods.

The android app was a pain to work upon. For starters, Android's bluetooth stack sent extra packets to the AirPods to check for some flow control mode. The AirPods will not respond to anything until they receive a specific handshake packet. I had to download the entire android source to test out and edit the libbluetooth_jni.so (the bluetooth stack). Then, I used my smol brain to make a few changes to the source code (and by a few changes, i mean commented a few lines)... And, it worked! Rant about Apple - Guess what- They hide their handshake packet from the PacketLogger app which allows me to view all the packets sent/received from my mac to any bluetooth device. Fortunately this was available online thanks to some other people who worked way before me. Apple even hid another packet necessary to activate Conversational Awareness and Adaptive Audio! Somehow, I got really, really, really lucky, and the packet just showed up in the PacketLogger app, shortly after which, it crashed.

What works on the app – • Accurate battery levels • In-Ear detection – Music is automatically paused when they're taken out of ear! Plus, AirPods are removed as an available audio output device when none of the AirPods are in ear. • Conversational Awareness – Lowers volume when you start speaking! • Set Noise Control Mode – I can change the Noise Control Mode on my AirPods Pro 2! • Renaming AirPods • And a bunch of other settings extracted from the iOS/iPadOS settings page. ◦ Namely, Toggle Conversational Awareness, Toggle Loud Sound Reduction, Set Adaptive Audio Noise level, Toggle Automatic ear detection, Off listening Mode, Tone Volume, Noise Cancellation with Single AirPod, Toggle Volume Control by swiping. • And, of course, a debug screen, which lists all packets received, and even allows you to send packets! Loving NextJS so far. The way NextJS handles things is new for me, although I have made many apps I never actually learned anything, but this time I am making myself to the top. Anyways, My project is a part of a bigger picture, a full fledged productivity app. ChopProductivity will be one big productivity ecosystem of a app. Currently I am trying to make a local-db based pomodoro, then it will be a google-sign in prismaDB based cloud stored pomodoro app, then I will expand it to To-Do Lists and futher get it on multiple frameworks and platforms to increase my own productivity along with many others. day 4 of no code. today was a semi no-code day, i didnt do any coding but i learnt about it in my robotics class. i also did lots of maths work and econ work today for assignments i wanna submit early (i rlly wanna clear out my schedule by submitting everything wayyy earlier). i also got some tickets for an SMEs convention (im mostly only gonna use that to network for #C07J6TP1LLB|). counterspell related, i got to work a lil bit on the budget, if you wanna check it out its here :)

I finished the tutorial and the result is typical I think for a Bigram Model. I think next up is a N-gram Model or transformer-based model however I probably need to figure how to transfer the pre trained model to continue to train the model since google colab randomly cuts off after inactivity

ship time 🗣️ For times when they need blood urgently, they have one person painstakingly go through the sheet, filter out donors who haven’t donated in over three months, check if they meet certain other criteria, find out their distance from the center by putting in their address on google maps or something and individually call them on the phone and ask if they can donate. idk about you but no one deserves to go through that 💀 I asked the manager of the blood bank if I could maybe build something to help solve this as a summer project, and he, being the awesome person he is, agreed and even offered to take me around the blood bank! FORMUFLASH I made a flashcard app aimed at spanish-speaking STEM students supporting LaTeX and Markdown (also images) syntax allowing complete control over the appearance and content of flashcards. The content is writen in Spanish as I aim to promote it and gain a userbase and the Spanish market was nonexistent (sorry english speakers, you will need google translate). Made with a django-rest backend with postgreSQL, react ts frontend and nginx as a reverse proxy. It (django and nginx )has been deployed to as individual serverless containers to gcp cloud run, it is then managed by a load balancer. This was started before I joined arcade (it has taken waaaay more hours than hours im submiting) You can access it through formuflash.com, formuflash.com(if I don't have SSL setup) (or formuflash-frontend-qkflfm2o5q-no.a.run.app, if the first link doesn't work, I don't have the domain setup yet,). i finally finished it!

i made a book from scratch containing all the amazing tales from #C06RQ9TTEG3|! introducing ✨tales from the trail ✨, a hand-made book that i binded with leather and some old-looking paper. i wrote about the AWESOME experiences that we had out there in the woods and all the amazing cool friends i made! btw tail is by far the best group! and the best part i think was the fun little 3d paper gadget things (tent that you can open and there are two sleeping bags inside), tiny lake dioramas (blue hot glue basically), pop-ups (a very wonky looking bear and FIRE!!) and other trinket stuff (like a magnifying glass to inspect people's faces if thats something you like to do)! hope you enjoy! :) fun fact: the book spine has pink himalayan salt hot-glued on for some reason the entire book: docs.google.com/document/d/16lMUuA6GF8RqRvB3axDwEq4kIcqhxX17YrtS4XYHUTI/edit?usp=sharing repo (including video): github.com/themagicfrog/talesfromthetrail btw... another google-doc style recount about EVERYTHING that happened (that i know of) on #C06RQ9TTEG3| is coming soon

I've added Google OAuth to WhatsApp PA! Plugins can request access with certain scopes and use Google APIs, and all the complex scope and token management and refreshing is handled by WhatsApp PA for you.
